Scott Shall, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, houm | Professor of Architecture, Lawrence Technological University | Founding Director, International Design Clinic
Scott Gerald Shall, RA, is a Professor of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University (LTU), founding principal of the architectural practice Houm, and founding director of the International Design Clinic (IDC), a non-profit that realizes socially-responsive creative action with low-income communities around the world. Since founding the IDC in 2006, Shall has worked through this organization to complete over two dozen projects on five continents. Shall’s work in this arena has been disseminated widely, including contributions to publications by Springer (2023) and Palgrave-MacMillan (2018), presentations at the World Congress of Architects (2023) and the 2nd Valencia Biennial of Research in Architecture (2020), and inclusion within exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Art in La Paz, Bolivia (2015), the Sheldon Swope Museum of Art (2010), the Zeitz Museum for Contemporary African Art (2022), the Goldstein Museum of Design (2010), the Venice Architecture Biennale (2013), and MoMA (2015).

Breck Crandell is a licensed Architect (MI, OH, FL, IL, AZ) with extensive experience and a strong passion for innovative housing solutions. His career has taken him from notable offices in Ann Arbor and San Francisco back to Detroit, where he now leads a team as the Director of Design at the architecture firm Three Squared Inc.
Breck is known for his work with unique building materials and alternative construction methods to create efficient and visually striking residential and mixed-use structures
Breck holds a Master of Architecture degree from Lawrence Technological University, where he has also been an adjunct instructor of design studios since 2017. Over his career, he has successfully designed more than 30 completed buildings, with numerous others currently under construction nationwide.
In addition to his architectural pursuits, Breck is a dedicated musician, playing drums for touring bands. He co-owns the musical rehearsal space Grove Studios in his hometown of Ypsilanti, balancing his creative passions with his professional expertise.

Ty Petrie is a versatile licensed general contractor with expertise that spans from new builds to intricate historic restorations. As the founder of Living Edge LLC, a construction and fabrication business launched in 2017, Ty combines hands-on craftsmanship with innovative construction techniques.
His early career as a rigger for a zipline company and a rock climbing guide honed his meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving abilities, traits that define his approach today. With a deep background in carpentry, Ty has also built unique structures such as shipping container projects and timber-framed homes. Now, as part of the Houm team, he has expanded his skillset to include working with advanced materials like SIPs (structural insulated panels) and Houm’s proprietary Core system, which he has helped design and refine. Ty plays a critical role in testing and iterating the Core system in his fabrication shop, which is equipped with a CNC router, a fully operable wood shop, a metal fabrication area, and a spray booth for finishing projects.
Beyond his professional life, Ty’s passion for exploration is evident in his travels—having visited 47 states and 18 countries. He enjoys outdoor activities like sailing, rock climbing, and motorcycle riding, balancing his adventurous spirit with his dedication to construction innovation.
